Alliteration

Baking

So last week, Fall began, but now it's summer again, in all it's 80-degree heat. I am of that ilk that does not wish for summer to linger on endlessly (much to the chagrin of most of my fellow Western New Yorkers), and can't wait for the season of pumpkin pie and hot apple cider to begin. I was so excited when the temperature dropped that I got in a couple batches of these pumpkin-walnut muffins. Yum.

Book-ing

Finished two books over the weekend. The Amber Spyglass was worth the late-nite Friday (early Saturday morning?) push to get to the last page and then I was sad when it was over. A. was right. If you're into Harry Potter, Madeline L'Engle or the Narnia books, this is definitely up your alley. Speaking of kid-fiction, I've recently snagged Eldest, the follow-up to Eragon. We'll see how it goes. I wasn't quite as taken by Eragon as the critics, as I felt it was a bit too simplistic, without enough meat. Still, it was enjoyable and a quick read, and I'm game to give the second one a shot.

Also finished David Shickler's Kissing in Manhattan. I remember being so excited when I bought this book as soon as it came out in paperback. I had read some reviews that piqued my interest. Then it sat on my bookshelf of books to read (my purchased-but-unread-stash fills an entire bookshelf, as there is just not enough time!!!). Somewhere between the bookstore and its trip home, the mood dissipated; or perhaps I got sidetracked by another (more likely). My eye fell on it about a month ago, and I read the first few stories while getting my oil changed, but then life got in the way. So it sat around again some more until Saturday when I completely devoured it. A collection of loosely tied vignettes follows the lives and relationship woes of the tenants of a mythic apartment building. It is tragic, comic, and witty -- in other words, a great read!

Beaming

My secret pal's first package came last Tuesday, which was a pretty rough day for me overall, so the timing couldn't have been better! This mohair is so soft, I can't wait to figure out what it's meant to be. And a gal can never have too many needles -- look what she picked up for me from Target! Thanks SP!

Boasting

Finally got around to taking some pics of the finished Flirts, all blocked. I resoaked the pink in conditioner for a bit longer and it seems to have done the trick, softening it up quite a bit.

Here's an idea of length and how they hang:
